EXPANSION OR ADAPTER CARDS:

An expansion card is a PCB (Process Control Block) that fits into an expansion slot on a desktop computer, used to give a computer additional capabilities, such as enhanced video performance via a graphics card.

Its alternatively referred to as an add-on card, expansion board, internal card, interface adapter, or card.

Video CARDS

A video card is an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display such as a computer screen.

Its also called a display card, graphics card, display adapter or graphics adapter.

Frequently, these are mentioned as discrete or dedicated graphics cards, providing the distinction between these and integrated graphics. At the core of both is the graphics processing unit (GPU).

Video Capture Cards

A Video Capture Card is a card that converts analog signals into digital form and compresses data.

Its named after the process of  Video Capture, for which its mandatory.

Sound Cards

A sound card is an expansion card or IC for producing sound on a computer that can be heard through speakers or headphones.

 Although a computer does not need a sound device to function, they are inserted in every machine in one form or another, either in an expansion slot or built into the motherboard (onboard).

Network Cards

A Network Card  is an electronic device that connects a computer to a computer network, usually a LAN. It is considered a piece of computer hardware.

Its also known as an NIC(Network Interface Card), or network interface controller.

To achieve the connection, network cards use a suitable protocol, for example CSMA/CD.

TV Tuner cards

A TV Tuner Card is a kind of television tuner that allows television signals to be received by a computer.

Most TV tuners also function as Video Capture Cards, allowing them to record television programs onto a hard disk much like the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) does.

It contains a Tuner and an Analog-to-Digital converter (collectively known as the analog front end) along with demodulation and Interface Logic.

Punched Cards

A punched card or punch card is a piece of Chad paper that can be used to contain digital data represented by the presence or absence of holes in predefined positions. 

Punched cards were widely used for data input, output and storage, through much of the 20th century in the data processing industry.

While punched cards are now out if use, as of 2012, some voting machines still use punched cards to record votes.
